Business settings are the details that need to be on your invoices and contracts for them to look professional — and, depending on your jurisdiction, legally valid.
Where to find it
Account → Business.
Fields explained
Business name — the legal or trading name of your practice. Appears at the top of invoices and contracts. If you're a sole proprietor, your own name is fine.
Business address — shown on invoices for tax and record-keeping. If you work from home and don't want to share your home address, you can use a PO box or registered business address.
Credentials — your certifications and licenses (e.g. "DONA-certified Postpartum Doula · IBCLC #12345"). Shown under your name on contracts. Helps establish credibility.
Registration number — optional business registration or license number. Appears on invoices if set.
Tax settings
Tax rate — a percentage (e.g. 5 for 5%) applied to invoice totals. Set it to 0 if you don't charge tax.
Tax label — what to call the tax on invoices (GST, HST, PST, VAT, Sales Tax). This is what your client sees as the line item.
Tax number — your tax registration number (GST number, HST number, VAT ID). Required on tax-registered invoices in most jurisdictions.
Payment instructions
If you accept e-transfer, bank transfer, cash, or cheque, use the Payment instructions field to tell clients how to pay. It appears on invoice emails and on the payment page as an alternative to Stripe Checkout.
Example:
E-transfer to [email protected] (no security question required — auto-deposit enabled). Please include the invoice number in the message.
This field is freeform. Use as much space as you need.
Default hourly rate
Optional. Sets the default rate for hourly line items on new invoices. You can override it per invoice.
Currency
Set once on your profile. Don't change after sending invoices.
