Stripe Connect generally "just works", but a few common states can leave you unable to accept card payments. Here's how to diagnose and fix each.
Stripe shows as "Needs attention"
You completed onboarding but Stripe has more questions. Possible reasons:
- Identity verification requires a government ID.
- Bank account details need to be confirmed.
- Business documentation is required for your country.
Fix: go to dashboard.stripe.com, log in with the same email you used to connect, and complete whatever Stripe is asking for. When done, return to Cradled — the status updates automatically within a few minutes.
Stripe disconnected unexpectedly
Either you or Stripe revoked the connection. Go to Account → Payments in Cradled and click Connect Stripe again. Use the same email. Your existing Stripe account and history stay intact.
"Country not supported"
Stripe Connect is available in most but not all countries. Check Stripe's country list. If your country isn't supported:
- Use manual payment instructions instead (e-transfer, bank transfer, cheque).
- Mark invoices as paid manually when you receive the money.
Payments not arriving in my bank
Stripe payouts are separate from payment success. Things to check:
- Payout schedule: look at your Stripe dashboard. Default is daily; you may have changed it to weekly or manual.
- Payout delay for new accounts: Stripe holds early payouts for 7–14 days for fraud protection. Normal. Clears after your first few payouts.
- Bank details wrong: if Stripe can't deposit, it retries and eventually pauses payouts. Fix the bank details in your Stripe dashboard.
Refund failed
If a Stripe refund fails, possible causes:
- Insufficient Stripe balance — refunds come from your Stripe balance; if you've paid out everything recently, Stripe may fail the refund. It retries automatically.
- Payment too old — Stripe generally allows refunds up to 180 days after payment. Older than that, you need to manually transfer the money.
- Charge disputed — if the client already chargebacked the payment, you can't also refund it.
